Duvel Brings National Art Glass Competition to Downtown Albany

ALBANY, NY (07/25/2012)(readMedia)-- Duvel Moortgat USA, Ltd. joins the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District (BID) in presenting Dutch Inspired. Belgian Approved., a celebration highlighting Duvel's national Art Glass Competition. Attendees are invited to create their own artwork and submit their designs for the competition. Sculpture in the Streets artists lead the competition showcasing their artistry on large canvases with an outline of Duvel's signature curvy beer stemware. Guests can work on their own glass design by applying their creations on postcards with the same glass outline presented on the canvases provided by Duvel. Postcards can be submitted for the chance to win $250 as well as their design presented in the celebrated Duvel collection amongst designs by other famous artists. Samples of Duvel products will be available at the event as well as light fare provided by the Merry Monk.

The event is held in conjunction with 1st Friday on Friday, August 3, 2012 | 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, and takes place at Tricentennial Park, a historic urban space located between Broadway and Columbia Street in downtown Albany. This free public event offers attendees an opportunity to meet other individuals who live, work, and/or visit downtown Albany. Guests will also meet the artists who were featured in the 2012 Sculpture in the Street exhibit: Stand in the Sole of Albany. Placed throughout downtown Albany, six 7-foot clog sculptures and four 3-foot pairs, make up this year's exhibit.

"Our Night Out in Downtown have become engaging events that Downtown workers, residents, and visitors look forward to each month," stated Georgette Steffens, Executive Director of the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District, "The events offer Capital Region residents have enjoyed the opportunity to explore new Downtown restaurants and entertainment venues, meet local business leaders, and experience our Capital City in new and exciting ways."

The Stand in the Sole of Albany exhibit and walking tour are free and open to the public, runs through May 2013, and is free and open to the public. Walking tour maps will be available at area merchants, the Downtown Albany BID office at 40 North Pearl Street, Albany and online at downtownalbany.org.
