ALBANY, NY (08/12/2008)(readMedia)-- The New York Capital Region Chapter of the American Marketing Association (NYCRAMA) today named Elmer E. Streeter II, director of Corporate Communications for
St. Peter's Health Care Services, its 2008 Marketer of Excellence. Streeter will be honored during the Fourteenth Annual Mark of Excellence Awards on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at the Albany Marriot, Wolf Road.
During his distinguished 30-year career in health care, Elmer Streeter has earned widespread respect and admiration for his sustained excellence in marketing, advertising, public relations and crisis communications. Streeter has transformed health care marketing in the Capital Region, delivering cost-effective messages directly to consumers through innovative partnerships with media and business.
Streeter joined the public relations staff of the Albany Medical Center Hospital, and its sister institution, Albany Medical College, in 1976. During his 17 years of service, he was responsible for a wide range of marketing, public relations and media relations activities. Most notably, Streeter oversaw the team that re-branded the hospital and medical school as "Albany Medical Center."
In 1998, Streeter joined Mercycare, now called St. Peter's Health Care Services, as Director of Corporate Communications. During the past ten years, he has helped change the public perception of St. Peter's from a small community hospital to one of upstate New York's premier health care systems.
"Elmer Streeter is a shining example of marketing professionalism. Yet his contributions extend far beyond the walls of St. Peter's. His leadership, innovation, and generosity have helped improve the quality of life for all members of our community, from the youngest to the most senior. Elmer Streeter's career proves that achieving highly challenging business goals and doing good for the community are not mutually exclusive endeavors. He represents the very best of our profession," said NYCRAMA president Courtney Remington.
Streeter is a co-founder with WRGB/CBS 6 of "Melodies of Christmas," the highly-successful entertainment show which has raised more than $5 million for child cancer programs. He was also a founding member of Albany's Ronald McDonald House, and is a member of the Junior Achievement Board, and chairman of the Tech Valley Business Hall of Fame committee. While at St. Peter's, he has also developed numerous long-standing community volunteer recognition, health and education programs with WNYT-NewsChannel 13 and the Times Union including 13 Kids Who Care, Journey Through The Body, the Jefferson Awards, LiveSmart and a major cardiac health awareness program. Streeter has directed several television, radio, and print advertising campaigns, including AMA Mark of Excellence Award winners in 2000, 2002 and 2006.
"Given the rich history and abundance of talented communications and marketing professionals in this region, including those previously inducted as Marketers of Excellence, it is truly an honor to be singled out for this recognition. I feel blessed to have worked for institutions that have shared and supported the belief that partnering for a better community was an important aspect of any integrated marketing program. At a time when we need government, business and not-for-profit partnerships more than ever, this recognition is a validation of such efforts and that pleases me even more," said Streeter.
Past recipients of the Marketer of Excellence Award include: E. Kristen Frederick, president and CEO, The Community Foundation for the Capital Region; Dr. Alan Chartock, president and CEO of WAMC Northeast Public Radio; former Times Union Marketing Director Robert Provost; recently retired Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno; Lyn Taylor, president, Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce; and Kelly Lovell, former president /CEO, The Center for Economic Growth.
In addition to honoring Elmer Streeter, the Mark of Excellence Awards will recognize
highly effective, results-oriented marketing campaigns and initiatives from organizations, agencies, and educational institutions across the Capital Region.
