DETROIT, MI (01/21/2016)(readMedia)-- Ron Savage, anchor/investigative reporter with WJBK, Fox 2 Detroit has joined the American Lung Association for the 10th annual Fight for Air Climb as the Emcee and Honorary Firefighter Competition Chair. This will be his 6th time leading the climb to the top of the Marriott at the Renaissance Center.

In addition to reporting and co-anchoring the weekend news alongside Amy Lange, Ron's investigative Problem Solver series has exposed scams and crimes throughout the community. He won an Emmy in 2004 for his work reporting from the scene of a multiple shooting.

When he's not at Fox 2, Ron serves as a volunteer Firefighter/EMT with the Milford Fire Department. A decorated firefighter, Ron earned two citations for outstanding performance above and beyond the call of duty. Ron says his "part-time job as a firefighter is a lot like working with the Problem Solvers...it's gratifying to help people in need."

On Sunday, February 28th firefighters from 25 municipalities surrounding Metro Detroit will take part in the event's annual Firefighter Challenge. Firefighter teams will climb 71 stories of the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center in full firefighting gear. Firefighters will be awarded prizes for the fastest team, fastest individual and fundraising efforts.

"We're thrilled to have Ron on board for the event," said Jessie Jimenez-Schlicht, Development Manager for the American Lung Association in Michigan. "His experience as a firefighter gives him a unique understanding of the challenge, and he always keeps everyone inspired and motivated."

Civilian participants will also challenge themselves to climb either 71 (1,050 stairs) or 40 floors of the Marriott at the Renaissance Center while raising money to help support the fight against lung disease.

Spots are still available for both the firefighter competition and civilian challenges. Registration is available online at www.ClimbDetroit.org. No walk-ons will be accepted on event day.

35 million Americans are living with chronic lung diseases such as asthma, lung cancer and COPD. Lung cancer is America's #1 cancer killer.

The Fight For Air Climb Detroit is sponsored by the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center, Coach Insignia, the Book Cadillac Westin, and Fox 2.
