Eric Lavine of Mercer Island Earns Academic Recognition at Skidmore College
SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (07/19/2011)(readMedia)-- Eric Lavine, a member of the Class of 2011 at Skidmore College, earned academic recognition at the college this spring.
He is the son of Bruce Lavine and Marjolijn Plomp of Mercer Island.
Lavine earned a B.A. degree summa cum laude with honor in physics at Skidmore's 100h commencement in the spring.
He also was the recipient of the Eleanor A. Samworth Prize in Physics, named in honor of a former professor and awarded annually to an outstanding senior major in physics.
During his Skidmore career, Lavine was elected to membership in two honor societies: to Pi Mu Epsilon, the national honorary mathematics society, and to Sigma Pi Sigma, the national physics honor society.
In addition, he was a member of the Skidmore Honors Forum, which strengthens the intellectual life at the college and provides positive leadership on campus and in the community. Membership is open to students based on their academic accomplishments and commitment to excellence.
Founded in 1903, Skidmore College is a coeducational, liberal arts college with an enrollment of approximately 2,400 students. The college grants the bachelor's degree in some 60 majors, including both traditional liberal arts disciplines and preprofessional programs. Skidmore also awards the master of arts in liberal studies degree.
