OVID AND BROCKPORT, NY (03/02/2016)(readMedia)-- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New York State, NYSDA and NYSDF Partner to Deliver FREE Dental Care in Underserved Areas

Ovid and Brockport, NY. New York State Dental Association and New York State Dental Foundation, with support from a grant from New York State, are sponsoring three days of free dental care in March at two underserved locations in western New York; Ovid and Brockport. Using volunteer member dentists of the New York State Dental Association, the clinics will provide screenings, palliative care, prophylaxis, direct restoration and extractions to patients who usually remain unseen by a dental health professional.

The first clinic of this nature was held in November, at the Ovid location and 29 patients received approximately $17,500 in dental treatments. Moreover, we are able to get 28 of those patients enrolled in ongoing treatment at existing Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC), eliminating the need for these patients to seek emergency room care for dentistry and receive on-going care.

The clinic in Ovid is at the Finger Lakes Community Health Center and will be held on Friday, March 4th from 9-5 and Saturday, March 5th from 9-2.

Another will be held on Saturday, March 19th, from 9-5 at the Oak Orchard Community Health Center, Brockport, NY.

These on-going free dental demonstration projects are the first of many that will occur throughout the State at FQHCs in underserved areas through the collaboration of NYSDA, it's Foundation and the support of the grant by New York State. The importance of oral health cannot be disputed. Oral health is linked to many conditions including: endocarditis, cardiovascular disease, diabetic complications, dementia and respiratory infections to name a few.
