First-ever New York State Mission of Mercy Coming to Capital Region

Free Dental Clinic Seeks Patients, Volunteers and Donations for Capital Region Clinic

ALBANY, NY (06/04/2014)(readMedia)-- The first-ever New York State Mission of Mercy Free Dental Clinic (NYSMoM) is coming to the Capital Region. The two-day free dental clinic, scheduled to be held Friday, June 13 and Saturday, June 14 at the Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) Edward F. McDonough Sports Complex in Troy will accept any person in need to dental care. The clinic, which is sponsored by Henry Schein, is expected to treat more than 1,000 patients over the course of the two days.

The NYSMoM Free Dental Clinic provides a full range of dental services for people of all ages. Everything is done for free and on a first-come, first-served basis, including cleanings, fillings, extractions, x-rays, oral surgery, root canal treatment on front teeth, partial prosthetics and general health screenings.

To date, more than 800 people have signed up to volunteer for the NYMOM Free Dental Clinic. NYSMoM officials are encouraging additional people and businesses to register volunteers at www.nysmom.org. Volunteer registration is scheduled to close on June 10, 2014, and roughly 800 volunteers are needed each day. The clinic will open its doors at HVCC on Friday, June 13 and Saturday, June 14 at 6 a.m. both days.

In all, more than $312,000 in donations have been made. NYSMoM's goal for the clinic is $350,000. To make a contribution please visit our website www.nysmom.org or call Carley Libertucci, Manager of Administrative Service for the New York State Dental Foundation 518-465-0044 or 1-800-255-2100 x222.

In addition to dentists and assistants, volunteers are needed for non-medical tasks as well, including traffic/crowd monitors, foreign language interpreters (all languages needed, especially Spanish), sign language interpreters, patient escorts, as well as tear down of the clinic. Descriptions of these jobs can be found at www.nysmom.org/volunteer.html.

"We encourage not only individuals to sign-up to volunteer for this critical outreach effort, but also area businesses to consider having employees give some of their time to help us at this year's NYSMoM Free Dental Clinic. It is a very rewarding endeavor that will help thousands of people in need," said Dr. Brian Kennedy, NYSMoM Co-Chair. "We are immensely grateful for the more than 800 people who have registered to volunteer so far and the more than $312,000 donated to support this year's clinic. With NYSMoM now six weeks away, we hope to keep that momentum going and continue to receive both monetary and in-kind donations from businesses, especially in the greater Capital Region."
