Fight for Clean Air at the Lorain County Health Fair
American Lung Association Plans June Event
INDEPENDENCE, OH (04/28/2011)(readMedia)-- The inaugural Lorain County Fight For Air Health Fair will take place on Saturday, June 11, 2011, at the Oberlin Inn, Oberlin, Ohio. Sponsored by the American Lung Association in Ohio (ALAO), it's an outstanding opportunity for Lorain County residents of all ages to learn about many subjects relating to lung health and enjoy a festive and fun event.
The health fair festivities begin at 10 a.m. There will be booths and vendors' services set up on the Inn's patio. The vendors and services represent a cross section of interest to the residents of Lorain County including hospitals, healthcare companies, rehabilitation services, heating and air conditioning companies, medical services, senior living centers, insurance agencies, medical services, automobile dealerships, ecological interests, health screenings and activities for children.
There will also be a one mile fitness walk leaving from the Oberlin Inn at 11 a.m. and following a route in the downtown area. Participants can choose to walk as individuals or form teams. Walk registrants can ask family and friends to come and cheer them on in the fight for clean air. Fundraising is encouraged to support the efforts of the organization in the work they do – research into lung diseases, advocacy for clean air and tobacco cessation programs and education for patients, families and the general public.
The event is spearheaded by Lorain County resident, Connie Boase, who is a lung cancer survivor. She is pleased to have the opportunity to increase awareness about lung diseases to others and raise funds for ALA to support their mission throughout the county and all of Northeast Ohio.
Lung diseases such as asthma and COPD cannot yet be cured, but they can be managed. Making sure people know what's needed to take control of these lung diseases is one of the American Lung Association's top priorities. 35 million Americans are living with chronic lung diseases such as asthma, lung cancer, emphysema and COPD; lung cancer is America's #1 cancer killer.
Space is available for those wanting to be exhibitors at the Health Fair or anyone who wants to participate in the fitness walk. For information, to register to walk or to make a donation to support this event, please call (216) 532-8203 or toll-free at 1-800-586-4872.
