BOURBONNAIS, IL (09/06/2013)(readMedia)-- David Wine, associate professor of Christian education and a former resident of Canton, was recently honored by Olivet Nazarene University as 2013 Faculty Member of the Year. "David, for your unwavering passion for the human soul, and for years of investing in the hearts and minds of others, we salute you as the 2013 Faculty Member of Year," Dr. John C. Bowling, University president, said as he presented the award to Wine during the annual President's Dinner.

A third generation Nazarene pastor, Professor David Wine joined the faculty of Olivet's School of Theology and Christian Ministry in 1995. Prior to that, he served as a youth pastor in Lima, Mount Vernon and Canton, Ohio, and as the associate pastor at College Church of the Nazarene in Bourbonnais, Ill.

Wine is known among students for his interactive teaching style and effectiveness in class. He also enjoys the one-on-one mentoring opportunities he has with students.

"As a professor, I try to be faithful to who God has created me to be - and being a steward of those gifts and passions He has planted in my heart. If I am effective at all, it's because of God," Wine said.

Mentoring is a passion for Wine and his wife, Donna. They often help engaged couples navigate the beginning stages of a lifelong relationship.

In August 2013, Wine completed an adult Sunday school curriculum on Nehemiah for the Nazarene Publishing House, which will be distributed to Nazarenes around the world.

Wine has a love for people and desires them to live abundantly in Christ. "My greatest fulfillment is seeing my students and children embrace their calling and extend God's kingdom," he said.
