Free Mental Health First Aid Training For Rural Communities

Free event aims to educate, share stories, and promote healing

COBELSKILL, NY (08/12/2025) (readMedia)-- Farmers, agribusiness professionals, and members of rural communities are invited to attend a free Mental Health First Aid training on Friday, September 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at The Gathering Place, 127 Kenyon Road, Cobleskill, NY.

Just as CPR equips individuals to respond to physical health emergencies, Mental Health First Aid prepares participants to assist someone facing a mental health or substance use challenge or crisis. This in-person training offers practical tools to help attendees recognize warning signs and respond with confidence and compassion.

"Mental health is just as essential as physical health. When one suffers, the other often follows. Recognizing and responding to mental health challenges is a vital skill for every community member," said Amanda Horner, Project Coordinator with NYS Association for Rural Health.

The training is open to anyone who lives in, works with, or serves rural communities, including farmers, agribusiness workers, healthcare providers, civic and faith leaders, educators, and concerned neighbors. Participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the session.

This course is valued at $170 and is supported by a grant from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, so that learners may attend at no charge. This free event includes lunch and refreshments and is provided thanks to generous support from the NYS Association for Rural Health, NY FarmNet, The Gathering Place, and the Rural Health Education Network of Schoharie, Otsego, & Montgomery Counties.

Space is limited to 30 attendees and is expected to fill up quickly. To register, call 1-800-547-3276 or visit www.nyfarmnet.org/trainings-events.
