General Building Contractors of New York State Members Deliver Educational Tool Kits to Local Girl Scouts
Construction Education Kit Developed by Associated General Contractors and Scholastic
ALBANY, NY (08/09/2007)(readMedia)-- The General Building Contractors of New York State, the New York State Building Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America, announced today the delivery of 18 “Build Up!” construction educational tool kits by their local members Manning, Squires, Hennig Co. (Batavia), LECESSE Construction Co. (Victor), V.J. Gautieri Constructors Inc. (Batavia), LeChase Construction Services LLC (Rochester) and Enterprise Fleet Management (Rochester), to the Girl Scouts of the Genesee Valley. The “Build Up!” kit is developed by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) and Scholastic, Inc, the nation’s premier educational materials publishing company. AGC is a national trade association representing over 33,000 general contractors and related firms with nearly 100 chapters nationwide, including the General Building Contractors of New York State (GBC).
The “Build Up!” kit is shaped like a tool box and contains exercises, learning guides, materials and supplies for up to 30 children. The materials contained in the kit are structured to teach children about the importance of the construction industry. Students learn about the many different careers in construction and go on “treasure hunts” around their region to learn about the different building and road systems in their area. The children also build structures with different construction materials and study the infrastructure they encounter in their daily lives. According to Jeff Zogg, Executive Director of the GBC, “The GBC membership is delighted to join with the Girl Scouts in supporting this innovative program and playing an active role in our local community. Our members commit themselves to educating our children and support the vitality of the construction industry.”
“We are delighted to see local GBC member firms taking an active role in promoting non-traditional careers to the Girl Scouts of the Genesee Valley,” stated Kathie Woika, Program Manager for the Girl Scouts.
