Northeast Green Building Conference 2009
ALBANY, NY (04/20/2009)(readMedia)-- The Northeast Green Building Conference 2009, the leading Green building educational event in Upstate New York, takes place this Thursday and Friday, April 23-24, at the Clarion Hotel, 3 Watervliet Avenue Ext., Albany.
New York State First Lady Michelle Paige Paterson will address the conference on the "Greening the Executive Mansion" initiative. New York State is the first state to register for LEED® Certification for the residence of the state's chief executive. Albany Mayor Gerald D. Jennings will be welcoming the attendees to Albany and the first-of-its-kind in Albany green building conference. Mrs. Paterson will provide the conference's keynote address at 10:00 am on April 23rd.
The two-day conference, the first of its kind to be held in New York's Capital City, brings together sustainable building advocates, construction industry associations, design professionals, higher education and private business in a unique sharing of knowledge and application of sustainable "green" building practices. The conference includes training sessions and sustainable design seminars, providing attendees with Continuing Education Units (CEUs) approved by the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
Additionally, a vendor trade show will highlight the availability and cost-effectiveness of "green" products and building materials for residential and commercial construction.
"As excited as we are about this year's event happening during Earth Week, next year's Northeast Green Building Conference will start on Earth Day, April 22, 2010," said Wayne Williams, LEED® AP, Chairman of the Program Committee and Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the USGBC NYUC, and Chief Sustainability Officer at U.W. Marx Construction Company.
The conference is hosted by the United States Green Building Council New York Upstate Chapter (USGBC NYUC), the Associated General Contractors of New York State (AGC NYS) and the Workforce Development Institute at Hudson Valley Community College (WDI HVCC). WDI will be leading the educational sessions at the conference with the support of and in collaboration with HVCC's Dr. Christine LaPlante's Architecture, Civil Engineering and Construction Technologies Department.
