Experienced Professional to Lead Fundraising Efforts

ALBANY, NY (03/18/2008)(readMedia)-- Edwin Graham, President and CEO of Gilda's Club Capital Region has announced that Ruth Schulman has been named Director of Development of the local affiliate of worldwide Gilda's Club.

Schulman is developing a comprehensive campaign initiative for the organization that will provide sustaining revenue for operations, support services and educational programs of the Latham-based non-profit cancer support organization.

According to Graham, “We are delighted to welcome Ruth Schulman to our organization. She is a well-respected and experienced professional who will make a difference at Gilda's Club, spearheading our existing development program and expanding new efforts.”

Prior to her position at Gilda's Club Capital Region, Schulman was Director of Development and the Major Gifts Officer at the University at Albany School of Education where, among other accomplishments, she led the program to raise in excess of $500,000 in endowed funds for the school's scholarships and fellowships.

From 2001 until 2005, she was Director of Development for the Animal Protective Foundation in Scotia, New York, where she developed a successful annual giving campaign, developed new community leadership for the organization and established collaborative partnerships with other non-profits to shelter pets affected by domestic violence situations. Prior to her work with the Animal Protective Foundation, Schulman was Director of Resource Development at the United Way of Schenectady County. She also served in development positions with Equinox, Inc. of Albany, New York, the United Jewish Federation of NENY in Latham, New York and the Anti-Defamation League's New York State Regional Office in Albany, New York.

Schulman is involved in professional development associations in the Capital Region and is currently the immediate past president of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and a member of Women in Development. As a dedicated community volunteer, she serves as a lead volunteer for the Center of Excellence for Bariatric Medicine at Albany Medical Center, is a board member of the Albany-Tula Alliance and is an emeritus member of the Southern Saratoga YMCA Board of Managers. Continuing her commitment to community, Schulman brings her leadership to other organizations including Concerned for the Hungry, the National Coalition Building Institute, and various task forces at the Shenendehowa Central School District in Clifton Park. Gilda's Club Capital Region is a non-profit affiliate of Gilda's Club World Wide, founded in memory of comedian Gilda Radner.
