Girl Scouts to Offer Camp Tapawingo this Summer

HALFMOON, NY (04/18/2012)(readMedia)-- The Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York (GSNENY) and the Turner Board, which oversees operation of Camp Tapawingo, have announced an agreement which will open Camp Tapawingo for the first time in five summers.

GSNENY has already scheduled a one-week day camp program August 6-10, 2012, called the "Clinton County Neighborhood Day Program". This program is about exploring every corner of the planet. Girls will learn outdoor skills, do some creek-stomping and learn about animals that live in their neighborhood. Girls will also discover their talents in arts, crafts, games, songs, hiking and much more!

GSNENY will have access to Camp Tapawingo from May 15 – October 15, 2012. GSNENY program staff, troops and communities will be able to make camp reservations through an online calendar housed in the Plattsburgh Service Center. When not in use by GSNENY, the camp will be available to other non-profit youth serving organizations.

Camp Tapawingo is located in Point au Roche with breathtaking views of Lake Champlain. The camp experience is magical, and is a wonderful place where girls have the opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones, gain confidence in their skills, and to feel good about themselves while learning new things.

Many thanks go out to the Turner Board for completing the restoration initiatives, and to local Girl Scout troops for taking on some necessary clean up duties.

Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York serves 11,000 girls and 5,000 volunteers throughout 15 counties: Albany, Clinton, Columbia, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Warren & Washington.
