MURPHY, N.C. (08/17/2010)(readMedia)-- The North Carolina National Guard's 210th Military Police Company, Detachment 2, is scheduled to rename the Murphy Armory in Murphy, N.C., tomorrow, Aug. 18, at 1:30 p.m. The armory will be renamed in honor of Army Staff Sgt. Bobby C. Franklin, a North Carolina National Guard Solider who was killed in action in Iraq on Aug. 20, 2003, while serving as a member of the North Carolina National Guard's 210th Military Police Company.
Franklin was the first North Carolina National Guard Soldier to be killed in action after September 11th, 2001. He served in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Friends, family members, and current and former Guardmembers are encouraged to attend. Media is also invited. The armory is located at 118 James A. Mulkey Dr., Murphy, N.C. 28906. The ceremony is open to the public.
