ST. PAUL, MN (05/27/2011)(readMedia)-- Dr. Milton Sernett, a resident of Hampton, Iowa, received an honorary doctorate from Concordia University, St. Paul, for his dedication to teaching in the church and in African American studies. The degree was conferred upon him during the University's commencement ceremony on May 13.
Dr. Sernett is a former Concordia University, St. Paul student, attending what was then called Concordia College, St. Paul in 1961-62. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in 1968 and earned his master's and doctorate degrees in American History from the University of Delaware in 1969 and 1972 respectively.
Now retired, Dr. Sernett continues to teach online courses on African American studies. He has published 14 books and numerous scholarly essays, with topics ranging from the history of cheesemaking to the transition from horse power to tractors on American farms.
