MONTGOMERY, AL (10/13/2016)(readMedia)-- The 1343rd Chemical, Radiological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Company, out of Huntsville, will be deactivating in a ceremony held on the parade field at Fort McClellan National Guard Training Center, Anniston, Alabama, Oct. 16, 2016, at 9:00 a.m.

The 1343rd has a history that dates back to World War II, when it served as a coast artillery unit and antiaircraft artillery unit, and received campaign credit for India, Central Burma, and China Defensive.

After World War II, the unit became a part of the Alabama National Guard. Over the years, the unit has reorganized and served in several specialties, including antiaircraft artillery, transportation, signal, engineer, and field artillery. The company was designated at the 1343rd Chemical Company in 2002.

The deactivation is a routine part of force structure adjustments throughout the Army and the Alabama National Guard. The Soldiers of the company will be transferred to other positions in the Alabama National Guard.

The armory the company has occupied on Memorial Parkway in Huntsville will be renovated and will house another Alabama Army National Guard unit.
