DES MOINES, IA (09/12/2012)(readMedia)-- Tania Johnson, a Cedar Rapids educator, has been named the 2013 Iowa Teacher of the Year. Johnson has been a professional educator for over 20 years and a member of the Iowa State Education Association (ISEA) and the Cedar Rapids Education Association (CREA) for just as long. Now, as vice-president of the CREA, and the 2013 Iowa Teacher of the Year, Johnson will be wearing two hats.
"Tania is no stranger to multi-tasking," said Tammy Wawro, president of the ISEA and former president of the CREA. "She's one of the hardest workers I know, and is the consummate professional. Tania is enthusiastic and makes learning interesting and fun, but also manages to get a lot of hard work included. I know first-hand, because we worked together in Cedar Rapids. The ISEA is delighted Tania has been named 2013 Iowa Teacher of the Year, and we are happy to share her talents and expertise with the rest of the state."
"I know, as the 2013 Teacher of the Year, I will have many opportunities to say thanks to the thousands of other teachers, parents, and community leaders, who are helping to support and care for our public schools" said Johnson. I look forward to being able to talk with educators and students and see all of the great things happening in schools throughout the state. I am proud to represent the ISEA and the CREA and professional educators everywhere who care deeply about our students, schools, and communities. I stand proudly with my colleagues at the ISEA who push to make this profession one in which we all have the opportunity to be teachers of the year, added Johnson.
Johnson earned this recognition as a kindergarten teacher in the Cedar Rapids School District and is now serving as the District's Teacher Quality Liaison.
The ISEA is a professional organization made up of nearly 34,000 educators who are dedicated to supporting and protecting a quality public education for all Iowa students. Great Education. It's an Iowa Basic!
