Illegally Adding Girlfriend To Insurance Leads To Arrest

NEW YORK, NY (01/26/2010)(readMedia)-- A Rochester man was arrested Monday for falsely listing his live-in girlfriend as his wife so she could obtain $13,700 in health insurance benefits, the New York State Insurance Department reported.

Monroe County sheriffs arrested Robert M. Moore, 62, of Pinewood Knoll, following an investigation by the Insurance Department's Frauds Bureau.

Moore is accused of listing the woman as his spouse on the Excellus Health Plan insurance he receives through his employer. The woman, who was not arrested, used the insurance to pay for medical, dental and prescription drug benefits she was not entitled to receive.

Moore was charged with third degree insurance fraud and third degree grand larceny. He could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison if he is convicted. He was released following his arraignment and will be scheduled to appear for a hearing in Monroe County Court.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Bill Gargan.
