DES MOINES, IA (08/04/2009)(readMedia)-- Iowa State Education Association ISEA President Chris Bern today launched the Association's Summer Conference with a speech to more than 300 local association leaders gathered on the Buena Vista University campus.
Each year, ISEA hosts its Summer Conference for members, which includes sessions on professional development, leadership training, bargaining rights, and special re-licensure credit opportunities.
The two and one-half day conference, held this year August 4- 6, offers members an opportunity to hone leadership skills and learn new ones, and to meet with their colleagues from around the state. ISEA shares its goals and mission for the next year with participants who then strategize how to implement them in their local associations.
Bern made clear in his remarks that the strength of the ISEA is in its combined voice as a union.
"What unions do first and foremost is represent their members," Bern said. "If we do that well, it will enable us to achieve our vision which is a great public school for every child in Iowa. Remember, the only way to achieve great public schools for every student is to be able to effectively advocate for ourselves and for our profession."
