SPRINGFIELD, IL (04/06/2012)(readMedia)-- SPRINGFIELD – Staff Sgt. Steven Helmich of Chicago, with Headquarters and Headquarters omapny, 108th Sustainment Brigade in Chicago, was promoted to the rank of sergeant first class April 6 at Camp Lincoln in Springfield.
Helmich was pinned by retired Chief Warrant Officer 5 Jack Pascoe of Springfield. Pascoe has pinned Helmich every promotion since Helmich was first promoted to specialist in 2002.
Helmich a Jacksonville native and a 2001 Jacksonville High School graduate enlisted into the Illinois National Guard in 2002. He deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005 to 2006 and to Egypt in support of the Multinational Forces Observer 2010 to 2011.
