James Prevost of Shelby Earns Service to Education Award from Limestone College

GAFFNEY, SC (05/01/2013)(readMedia)-- During its Alumni Weekend events (April 19-21), Limestone College recognized Dr. James Prevost of Shelby [28150] with its Service to Education Award. He is a member of Limestone's Class of 1979.

Limestone's Service to Education Award is presented annually to an alumna who has truly made a difference in the lives of others through education. With over thirty years of experience as an educator, Dr. Prevost has without doubt made a positive impact in the lives of others through the power of education.

"My Limestone experience provided the framework for a promising and diverse career in education," he said. "The forward thinking ideology of Limestone's faculty instilled within me the ability to create and employ innovative strategies that challenge learner to think critically and maximize their academic and individual talents."

Dr. Prevost has taught physical education, health, mathematics, sports medicine, and science. He has also coached wrestling and football on a volunteer basis and as part of his professional responsibilities.

His numerous awards include Shelby High School Teacher of the Year, Time Warner Cable's Star Teacher Award, the Presidential Award for Volunteer Service, and Cleveland County's Distinguished Educator Award.

Dr. Prevost resides in Shelby with his wife, Mary Ann. The couple has two children. He is the Director of Sports Medicine for Shelby High School and Cleveland County Schools.
