GAFFNEY, SC (05/01/2013)(readMedia)-- During its Alumni Weekend events (April 19-21), Limestone College recognized Terri Lynn Turner of North Augusta [29860] with its Service to Community Award. She is a member of Limestone's Class of 1981.

The Service to Community Award is presented annually to the Limestone alumnus/a who exhibits the ideals of civic responsibilities.

Terri is the Development Administrator, Floodplain Manager, and Hazard Mitigation Specialist in Augusta, Georgia and has worked for City and County government for over 18 years. "My work cannot be measured in finite terms like a published book or finely crafted building but more in terms of losses avoided, human misery and suffering reduced, and citizens being educated about their risks of hazard. I am but one voice, one very small voice, in a field of tireless compassionate, driven, professionals attempting to make the world a safer place," she said.

Terri spends countless hours writing for national publications and touring the nation speaking as a local government expert on community planning initiatives such as green infrastructure, sound floodplain management, the need for hazard mitigation, and promoting community sustainability and resiliency.

Her awards are numerous and include being named a Champion of Change by The White House in 2012 from a pool of more than 1,500 nominations.

Terri currently resides in North Augusta, SC with her husband, Mike. The couple has two children.
