Jeralyn Westercamp Named Iowan of the Day
DES MOINES, IA (07/30/2012)(readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Jeralyn Westercamp of Cedar Rapids as an Iowan of the Day for the 2012 Iowa State Fair.
Westercamp demonstrates leadership, character, achievement and community involvement. During the 2008 Iowa flood disaster, she founded a non-profit known as CR HOMEWORKS, which collects items for flood victim families. She also founded Kids 2 Kids: Tools 4 Schools, to promote literacy to children and currently serves as the first Iowan selected to be on the State Farm Youth Advisory Board. In addition, she spends countless hours volunteering at the Iowa City Veteran's Hospital, Habitat for Humanity and Cedar Rapids public library. Westercamp also works with the Girl Scouts of the USA and has many honors and leadership roles as a senior at the University of Iowa.
"Jeralyn is not only an outstanding person and student, but she is a combination of community-oriented, patriotic and selfless," says David Lodge, a close family friend and nominator of Westercamp. Westercamp's hard work and accomplishments make her a well-deserving Iowan of the Day.
Westercamp's day of recognition will be Friday, August 10 at the 2012 Iowa State Fair. Along with a one night's stay at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott, she will receive a cash prize, grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart. Westercamp will also receive a special introduction at 2:30 p.m. August 10 on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage.
Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's shining stars. The program continues to honor individuals from across the state each year who have made a difference in others' lives while upholding characteristics associated with Iowa-dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.
The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated over $85 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
