John Keeney named Iowan of the Day

DES MOINES, IA (08/01/2023) (readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present John Keeney as an Iowan of the Day for the 2023 Iowa State Fair.

John Keeney is a role model for the older generation and youth at the same time. After his graduation from Indianola High School, John attended Iowa State University to study Dairy Science. He was unable to continue his education due to finances and shortly after was drafted to Vietnam in the 101st Airborne Division where he served until 1970. John returned home and purchased his own farm where he and his wife raised their two daughters.

Between the Warren County Fair Association and the Warren County Agricultural Association, John has nearly 60 years of combined service. He has been the treasurer for the Warren County Agricultural Association for 15 years as well as a member of the Board of Directors. John has also served as the vice president on the Warren County Fair Association for 15 years. For 35 years, he was the superintendent for dairy cattle, advance cattle feeders pen of three, and bucket calf. John is a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was a 4-H leader for 16 years along with his 18 years of serving on the Extension Council and Youth Committee. John is an inspiration to so many for his service and dedication to many different organizations in his community.

John's day of recognition will be Sunday, August 13 at the 2023 Iowa State Fair. He will be recognized with a presentation on the Anne & Bill Riley stage at 12:00 PM. Along with accommodations at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown, he will receive a gift bag, Grandstand Concert tickets, use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart, a cash prize, Iowa State Fair admission tickets, and VIP parking.

The program continues to honor Iowans across the state who have made a difference in the lives of others, while upholding the characteristics associated with Iowa- dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.
