ALBANY, NY (07/23/2012)(readMedia)-- The Credit Union Association of New York, on behalf of Credit Union House, recognized John Prumo, president/CEO of GPO FCU and former Association chairman, with a plaque commemorating Prumo's induction into the Credit Union House Hall of Leaders at their recent Annual Meeting and Convention at The Sagamore on Lake George.

The Hall of Leaders recognizes credit union leaders whose commitment has made a significant impact on the credit union movement at the local, state or national level, and whose commitment has inspired others in the credit union movement.

For more than 30 years, Prumo has dedicated his career to serving and leading the credit union movement. He began his tenure at GPO FCU in 1979 and served on the Association board of directors from 1987-2011. He also served on CUNA's board of directors, CUNA Strategic Services' board of directors, and on the board and supervisory committee of the former Members United Corporate FCU.

"John has been an exceptional leader in the credit union movement, particularly here in New York State," said William J. Mellin, president/CEO of the Association. "Thanks to this well-deserved honor, everyone who visits Credit Union House will be reminded of his commitment and leadership."

Since opening in 2001, CU House has provided credit unions and credit union groups across the country with a coordination center on Capitol Hill. Each year, the townhouse attracts thousands of visitors, including members of Congress and Congressional staffers, business leaders and credit union representatives from around the world.

The Credit Union Association of New York has served as the trade association for the state's credit unions for 95 years. New York credit unions have assets of more than $57 billion and serve 4.6 million members. To learn more about the Association, visit www.cuany.org.
