Karen Weld Named Iowan of the Day
DES MOINES, IA (08/05/2010)(readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Karen Weld of Clarion as an Iowan of the Day for the 2010 Iowa State Fair.
Karen Weld was nominated by multiple individuals as a shining star in her community deserving of recognition. Whether it is a community event, school activity or sport, or a church activity, Karen is always there. She is an asset in many aspects of her community. Karen also founded a group called Mary's and Martha's, which assists those in need in the community and encourages young people making great achievements.
She works to promote her community through weekly emails of upcoming events around Clarion to its 900 residents. Her involvement helps to shape many youths' lives. Karen has organized service trips around the globe from Poland to Minnesota and Kansas. Additionally, Karen is involved with the Clarion Chamber of Commerce, Clarion Foundation for Community Improvement, Clarion Partnership for Growth and on the board for the Wright County Charitable Foundation. Karen's level of devotion to her community is hard to find and radiates Iowa pride.
Karen's day of recognition will be Thursday, August 12 at the Iowa State Fair. Along with a one night's stay at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott, Karen will receive a cash prize, grandstand tickets, one year subscriptions to the Iowan and Iowa Gardening magazines, and special use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart. Karen will also receive a special introduction at 2:30 p.m. August 12 on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage.
Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's shining stars. The program continues to honor individuals from across the state each year who have made a difference in others' lives while upholding characteristics associated with Iowa-dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.
The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated over $80 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
