PHILADELPHIA, PA (06/20/2011)(readMedia)-- Kelly O'Steen of Dunkirk was named the top graduating student in the speech-language-hearing science program at La Salle University in Philadelphia. When presented with the honor, Dr. Barbara Amster, Director of La Salle's Speech-Language-Hearing Science Program said, "Kelly is a true leader among her peers and in class. She tackled challenges with great interest and no task seemed insurmountable. She was highly regarded by her classmates within the SLHS Program as someone who was academically talented and was willing to share her knowledge for the benefit of others. She enthusiastically helps her peers and was happy to do so. During all classes she was often first to raise her hand to either ask a thought-provoking question or provide an intelligent answer. Outgoing, talented, and hard-working, Kelly did all this while playing Division 1 soccer at La Salle. As a student-athlete, she has effectively balanced the demands of academics and sports. In addition, she was eager to participate at the Deaf Olympics in Taiwan. Having a bilateral hearing impairment has never stood in Kelly's way. In fact, this made her even more interested in the subject of speech-language-hearing science. Being very committed as a student in her coursework and clinical experiences, we have no doubt that Kelly will be a true asset to the profession of communication sciences and disorders."
