ST. PAUL, MN (10/22/2010)(readMedia)-- Walter M. Schoedel was presented with the Aeterna Moliri award from Concordia University, St. Paul on Oct. 17, 2010, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood, Mo., where he has served as pastor for 20 years. The Aeterna Moliri Award is granted to individuals who have "built for eternity" by spreading the Gospel and extending the work of the church.
For 58 years, Pastor Schoedel has made community outreach his mission. In Ft. Wayne, he helped establish a neighborhood association, a group home for slow learners, after school programs and one of the first inter-parish Lutheran schools in the country. As an advocate for the elderly, he helped establish elderly housing and edits a quarterly newsletter, "Engaging the Aging." In addition to conducting retreats and seminars, Schoedel has served on several community boards in both Ft. Wayne and St. Louis.
