LaVerne Quass named Iowan of the Day
DES MOINES, IA (08/01/2023) (readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present LaVerne Quass of Ankeny as an Iowan of the Day for the 2023 Iowa State Fair.
LaVerne Quass is committed to giving back to his community. This is evident from his 20 years of volunteering for Life Serve Blood Center. LaVerne has transported blood to hospitals all over Iowa and into Nebraska as a volunteer driver. Contributing more than 15,000 hours of his time while saving Life Serve almost $450,000. He continues to volunteer 25 hours a week at the age of 86.
LaVerne's service for his community goes beyond his time at Life Serve. He has donated more than 23 gallons of blood in 124 donations in his lifetime. He is also highly involved in his church, with 45 years of volunteering under his belt. LaVerne is a loyal and helpful friend, graciously aiding his aging friends with their appointments and outings. He is selfless and always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone. LaVerne exemplifies hard work, integrity, and accountability. All qualities that make him an outstanding Iowan and very much deserving of this award.
LaVerne's day of recognition will be Friday, August 11 at the 2023 Iowa State Fair. He will be recognized with a presentation on the Anne & Bill Riley stage at 12:00 PM. Along with accommodations at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown, he will receive a gift bag, Grandstand Concert tickets, use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart, a cash prize, Iowa State Fair admission tickets, and VIP parking.
Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's most outstanding individuals. The program continues to honor Iowans across the state who have made a difference in the lives of others, while upholding the characteristics associated with Iowa- dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.
