ALBANY, NY (06/05/2009)(readMedia)-- Laurence C. "Larry" Glazer founded Buckingham Properties in 1970 and today serves as its CEO, overseeing more than 35 properties totaling 7 million square feet in the Rochester/Finger Lakes region.

The same business acumen that grew Buckingham into the region's largest real estate developer has been of tremendous benefit over the years to Jewish Senior Life and everyone it serves, earning him the "Trustee of the Year Award" from NYAHSA on June 3.

Larry was elected to the board of directors at Jewish Home in 2002. By the end of his first term, he was chairman of the Finance Committee and was the board treasurer. His leadership and oversight brought the Jewish Home's financial standing from a considerable operating loss to a slight loss in 2005, and by the next year, they were in the black.

In 2005, Larry was tapped to chair a Jewish Home Bylaws Committee, and he spearheaded a major revision of the bylaws, significantly improving the Jewish Home's governance process. He created a robust committee structure that provides effective oversight and decision making and enables members to focus on policy and strategy; the governance structure gives clear direction to management on achieving objectives.

In 2006, Larry was elected to the board of Jewish Senior Life, the parent company of the Jewish Home. The next year, he headed the Strategic Planning Committee of Jewish Senior Life and developed a three-year plan to achieve the vision of being a premier, comprehensive, person-centered affordable aging services organization guided by its Jewish heritage. He became chairman of the board of Jewish Senior Life last year.

His dedication to Jewish Senior Life is matched by his community involvement, serving as director on the boards of numerous local organizations.

Larry's motivation for all the good that he does is simply to do the right thing and to make a positive difference in people's lives. He can often be found walking through the Jewish Home, visiting residents and encouraging staff members. In spite of his tremendous responsibilities, he makes the time and effort to connect with everyone in a positive, meaningful way.

Founded in 1961, the New York Association of Homes & Services for the Aging (NYAHSA) represents nearly 600 not-for-profit and public continuing care providers, including nursing homes, senior housing, adult care facilities, continuing care retirement communities, assisted living and community service providers.
