Laura Fralich of New Gloucester Earns Academic Recognition at Skidmore College

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (07/20/2011)(readMedia)-- Laura Fralich, a member of the Class of 2011 at Skidmore College, earned academic recognition at the college this spring.

She is the daughter of Michael and Julie Fralich of New Gloucester.

Fralich received a B.A. degree cum laude at Skidmore's 100th commencement.

In addition, she was one of two students who received the Environmental Studies Faculty Award, presented annually to ES majors who, through academic achievement, community engagement and leadership, demonstrate exceptional promise in addressing environmental issues.

She earned honors for academic work completed during the spring semester.

While a student at Skidmore Fralich started the Skidmore student garden. The goal of the garden was to offer an experiential learning opportunity surrounding the ecology of food. In addition, Fralich wanted to provide fresh, organically grown food to Skidmore's Dining Services. Three years later, the garden is going strong, having achieved its goals of supplying produce to the campus dining hall and work experience each year to students interested in sustainable gardening practices.

Founded in 1903, Skidmore College is a coeducational, liberal arts college with an enrollment of approximately 2,400 students. The college grants the bachelor's degree in some 60 majors, including both traditional liberal arts disciplines and preprofessional programs.
