Lawsky to address recovery issues as department dispatches emergency vehicle

NEW YORK, NY (08/29/2011)(readMedia)-- Financial Services Superintendent Benjamin Lawsky will meet with the media at 2 p.m., today in Long Beach to announce how New York State Insurance Department disaster recovery operations are being activated in areas hit by this weekend's storm.

Lawsky will answer media questions at Long Beach City Hall, 1 West Chester St., Long Beach, where the Department's Mobile Command Center (MCC) is being dispatched to assist Nassau County area residents with insurance-related questions.

Senator Dean Skelos, Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg and Long Beach City Manager Charles Theofan will join Lawsky.

The MCC is a 50-foot-long van equipped with high-speed internet access and telephone equipment that is being used to help property owners file claims and contact their insurance companies. Insurance Department personnel will also be available to answer consumers' questions.

Long Beach will be first stop for the MCC. It will be dispatched to other areas which experienced property damages, including sites in both Downstate and Upstate, throughout the week.
