Lila Bubke Named Iowan of the Day
DES MOINES, IA (07/30/2012)(readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Lila Bubke of Schleswig as an Iowan of the Day for the 2012 Iowa State Fair.
Bubke contributes to her community in numerous ways and demonstrates leadership, generosity and character. She helps at the local pre-school, K-8 public school and buses the children to babysitters and school. Bubke plays a large role in school fundraisers and makes "Lila Bars", which are popular homemade treats in her community. In addition, she is a liaison with the student government class at Denison High School, Treasurer of the Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary, member of the ABC Book Group, library volunteer, leads the Crawford County Relay for Life team, Ladies Golf Board Secretary and Treasurer, Community School Advisory Committee and Director of Schleswig's Town Parade Calf Show.
"Lila doesn't feel that she 'has to' volunteer for recognition or to get awards. She does it because it means the world to her and wants our community to be successful," said Julie Promes, friend of Bubke. Bubke's commitment and involvement in her community makes her a well-deserving Iowan of the Day.
Bubke's day of recognition will be Monday, August 13 at the 2012 Iowa State Fair. Along with a one night's stay at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott, she will receive a cash prize, grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart. Bubke will also receive a special introduction at 2:30 p.m. August 13 on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage.
Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's shining stars. The program continues to honor individuals from across the state each year who have made a difference in others' lives while upholding characteristics associated with Iowa-dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.
The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated over $85 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
