ROCHESTER, NY (03/05/2012)(readMedia)-- What is on the minds of young girls in the Rochester City School District? Nazareth College is hosting an open mic for 40 young women titled Listening to Urban Students' Voices: Girls Speak Out! The event, celebrating International Women's Day, is co-sponsored by the School of Education's Frontier Center for Urban Education and Nazareth's Center for Service Learning. The event celebrates girlhood and womenhood and the open mic will be moderated by Nazareth College students who ask the young women "what makes them phenomenal!?" Many of the young women have a refugee background and will discuss their culture. There will also be musical performances, and poetry and essay readings from young women.
