ALBANY, NY (09/08/2012)(readMedia)-- The City of Albany and the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District (BID) announce The Chronicles as the winner of the 2012 Downtown Albany JazzFest Contest. Selected as the People's Choice winner, The Chronicles who played at The Bayou Cafe, beat out seven other acts to win the opportunity to take the stage at the Riverfront Jazz Festival on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Noon.
Founded by upstate horn heavyweights, Bryan Brundige and Jeff Nania in October of 2009, The Chronicles have included and continue to feature the most talented up and coming musicians the capital region has to offer. The Chronicles have been working hard to spread their music throughout the northeast with appearances at regional theaters like the New Hampshire Jazz Center, and Proctor's GE Theater. They have also appeared at major music festivals like The Big Up, Bella Terra, African American Heritage Day, The Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival, and The BeatShot Music Festival. Albany's alternative newsweekly, Metroland recognized them in their 2011 "best of capital region" critic's poll as the best in live hip hop with "jazz chops out the yin yang, and new tunes at their fingertips every time they pick up their instruments." and Best in Jazz 2012.
"Downtown Albany was transformed into a jazz musical destination this evening," said Georgette Steffens, Executive Director, Downtown Albany Business Improvement District, "Over 1,000 attendees came out to listen to jazz in eight different downtown Albany venues and voted for their favorite act of the evening."
