Local Professionals Inducted Into Hall of Fame

Hall of Fame - McManus & Frawley

ALBANY, NY (08/07/2009)(readMedia)-- Kathleen A. Frawley and Patricia H. McManus, of Buffalo, N.Y., were inducted into the Credit Union Association of New York's Hall of Fame at their annual Convention held recently in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Hall of Fame honors are awarded to individuals who have devoted their lives to the philosophy and success of the credit union movement, and have had a significant impact on credit unions at the local, state or national level.

"Both of these women have been and continue to be active participants at Buffalo Metropolitan Federal Credit Union," said William J. Mellin, president and CEO of the Association. "Together they have dedicated more than 97 years, having a positive impact on the stature and growth of their credit union and the entire credit union movement."

Frawley first became a member of Buffalo Metropolitan FCU in 1965. She joined the credit union's Supervisory Committee and then went on to become the first woman elected to serve on the credit union's board of directors. She has held the positions of treasurer and first vice president and is currently the board's second vice president. Frawley is also the membership officer, chairperson of the credit union's Education Committee and an alternate on the Credit Committee.

McManus has devoted her life to Buffalo Metropolitan FCU and the credit union's "people helping people" philosophy. She was hired as a front line teller after graduating high school in 1956. In 1990, she was named manager-a position she held until her retirement on the last day of 1996. In the six short years she led Buffalo Metropolitan FCU, McManus increased the credit union's asset size by 19 percent and their loan portfolio by 25 percent. Even after retiring from 41 years of service, she immediately accepted an invitation to join their board of directors. She was elected secretary, a position she still holds today.

Buffalo Metropolitan Federal Credit Union was chartered in 1937. As of Dec. 31, 2008, the credit union had over $55 million in assets and serves more than 1,400 members. For more information about the credit union, please visit www.bflometrocu.org.
