Local Student Leah Werner-Evans of Astoria Earns Academic Recognition at Skidmore College
SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (06/30/2010)(readMedia)-- Leah Werner-Evans, a member of the Class of 2010 at Skidmore College, earned academic recognition at the college this spring.
She is the daughter of Wendy Werner of Astoria.
Werner-Evans earned a B.A. degree magna cum laude with honor in psychology at Skidmore's 99th commencement in May. In addition, she has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship for a year in Thailand. Werner-Evans will begin her Fulbright year in October with a 5-6 week orientation session in Bangkok before being assigned to work with middle and high school students. The assistantship provides a living stipend and covers airfare, housing, and medical costs during the year she is affiliated with the program.
She earned high honors for academic work completed during the spring semester at Skidmore.
During her Skidmore career, Werner-Evans was a member of Periclean, Skidmore's own academic honor society, which was formed in 1956 to stimulate intellectual curiosity, encourage creative activity, and honor academic achievement.
Founded in 1903, Skidmore College is a coeducational, liberal arts college with an enrollment of approximately 2,400 students. The college grants the bachelor's degree in some 60 majors, including both traditional liberal arts disciplines and preprofessional programs. Skidmore also awards the master of arts in liberal studies degree.
