Local Student Orli Handmaker of Louisville Earns Academic Recognition at Skidmore College

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (06/21/2013)(readMedia)-- Orli Handmaker, a member of the Class of 2013 at Skidmore College, earned academic recognition at the college this spring.

She is the daughter of David and Karen Handmaker of Louisville.

Handmaker earned a B.A. degree summa cum laude with honor in economics and in Spanish at Skidmore's 102nd commencement in May. In addition, she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the national honor society that exists to encourage and recognize outstanding individual achievements in liberal education. She also received the William E. Weiss Memorial Award in Economics, awarded annually to recognize outstanding accomplishment by a major or combined major in the field of economics.

During her Skidmore career, Handmaker was elected to membership in two honor societies: the Alpha Zeta Chapter of Omicron Delta Epsilon, the international honor society in economics, and Sigma Delta Pi, the national honor society in Spanish.

Founded in 1903, Skidmore College is a coeducational, liberal arts college with an enrollment of approximately 2,400 students. The college grants the bachelor's degree in some 60 majors, including both traditional liberal arts disciplines and preprofessional programs. Skidmore also awards the master of arts in liberal studies degree.
