CLEARWATER, FL (03/27/2012)(readMedia)-- Clearwater Christian College is pleased to announce that sophomore men's basketball player, Tristan Shore, of Merritt Island, FL, received the Newcomer's Award from the Christian College Sports Network (CCSN). CCSN follows National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division II sports. Each year, the CCSN chooses a first-year player who exhibits the largest impact upon his team over the course of the year. Normally awarded to freshman players, it was a pleasant surprise for the Cougars when the CCSN named Shore as the award recipient. Shore is a pastoral studies major at CCC and is the son of Theodora Shore of Merrit Island.
According to the CCSN website, "Tristan Shore is explosive, has size, and has a knack for hitting big shots. What more can you ask for in our CCSN Newcomer Award winner? Not a true freshman, but really came on the scene with some noise for CCC. We had always heard about the explosive offense for Cougars and Shore helped take it to the next level."
Tristan said, "This award means a lot to me! I would like to give all the credit to God for putting the people in my life to even get me to this school. In July, I was nowhere near living the right way to be a Christian school like CCC, but God took a hold of my life and has blessed me in so many ways. I was just recently saved on September 11, 2011, and my first few months being at CCC had a huge impact on that. The staff and students at CCC are amazing and are always there to help me along the way. I am a transfer student from Daytona State College; basketball here is a totally different experience. My coach, Keith Champion has had a huge impact on my life on and off the court already. We have devotions before every practice and he truly cares about his players lives outside of basketball. We had a tough start of the year playing against NCAA DII competition as well as NAIA schools. As a team, we learned a lot from those games and it made us come together even more as a team. This team is the best team I have ever been a part of because of the friendships that have developed over the season of ups and downs. Thank you very much for this award."
Coach Champion is pleased to be a part of Tristan's success, both on and off the court. "Tristan brought an explosiveness to the Cougars this year and added greatly to our team's success. More importantly than his basketball skills, he continues to grow as a Christian and that is what pleases me the most. Tristan has the ability to impact opponents with his ability, but also has the ability to impact others with the testimony of what God is doing in his life. I am thrilled that Tristan came to CCC this year."
