DES MOINES, IA (05/20/2015)(readMedia)-- Katie Jaeschke, a senior majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences Education at Iowa State University received a Scholarship for Future Educators from the Iowa State Education Association (ISEA). Katie is the daughter of Sharon Jaeschke who is an ISEA member from the Prairie Valley Education Association in the Prairie Valley Community School District.
The ISEA offers scholarships to helps sons or daughters of association members become teachers. Applicants must have completed 60 semester hours (or equivalent) or they must be considered a junior at the college or university in which they are enrolled.
"Katie is an outstanding student and will be a tremendous addition to the teaching profession," said Tammy Wawro, president of the ISEA. Growing up in her mother's classroom, teaching comes naturally to her. Katie embodies the best of our profession in her enthusiasm, passion, and commitment. As Katie says, she watched her mother work to create engaging learning experiences and wanted to be a part of that process. We are delighted to be able to award her our Scholarship for Future Educators and hope it will help lighten her financial burden so she can continue to focus on her career," added Wawro.
Katie received her scholarship at ISEA's Friend of Education Award dinner held on May 6, at the Carollton Inn in Carroll, Iowa. Lincolnway UniServ president, Barb Langor presented Katie with the check. This fall, Katie will be student teaching in Cedar Falls.
