Madison native choreographs and performs in Beloit College December Dance Workshop

BELOIT, WI (12/08/2011)(readMedia)-- A dance choreographed by Alissa Chen of Madison will take place during Beloit College's December Dance Workshop Performances on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9 and 10. Chen is a sophomore and a graduate of West High School. She is the daughter of Dr. Lii-Tarn Chen and Sue Jane Liu.

Chen's dance is titled, "The Cookie Jar," and is set to the music of "When Your Mind's Made Up," by Glen Hansard. Chen designed the costumes with the help of her eight dancers, and Chen is also dancing in performances titled "Cotyledon", "Walking Waters," and "Purple Swirls."

These dances are among 20 student-choreographed dances to be performed during the annual December Dance Workshop. Student choreographers, who have either taken or are currently registered for choreography class, cast their pieces at the beginning of the fall semester and have been rehearsing ever since. The dances are publicly presented on two evenings, with an outside dance expert attending on the second night to give feedback and to choose which student pieces will be given an encore performance in Chelonia, Beloit College's annual dance performance in February.
