Marian McQuaid Named Iowan of the Day
DES MOINES, IA (07/31/2017) (readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Marian McQuaid as an Iowan of the Day for the 2017 Iowa State Fair.
From Main Street to the library, Marian has played a vital role in transforming her community. Marian organized "Friends of the Library," a group that spearheaded the project of building a new library that Guthrie Center was in need of. Marian also volunteers her time assisting with after school programs and leading story hour for children. Knowing the main street in Guthrie Center needed some updates and recognition, Marian assisted in putting together an application for a main street designation, which it received.
Marian is very active in Guthrie Center and you will find her lending a helping hand with various organizations throughout. She is a member of Homestead Helpers, a support group for the local nursing home and volunteers weekly for the Guthrie County Arts Council, which she founded. Marian has served on various committees to put together events for all members of her community to enjoy, including the Fall Arts Festival.
"Marian is passionate about supporting those who enjoy the benefits the arts bring to individuals and communities. She demonstrates this passion, not with just words, but through many generous gifts, especially her time" says Dale Menning, President of Guthrie County Arts Council.
Marian's day of recognition will be on Monday, August 14 at the 2017 Iowa State Fair. She will be recognized with a presentation on the Anne & Bill Riley stage at 2:30 P.M. Along with accommodations at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown, she will receive a gift bag, grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart.
