Mary Horn of Boulder Earns Academic Recognition at Skidmore College

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (07/21/2011)(readMedia)-- Mary Horn, a member of the Class of 2011 at Skidmore College, earned academic recognition at the college this spring.

She is the daughter of Scott and Nancy Horn of Boulder.

Horn received a B.A. degree summa cum laude with honor in music at Skidmore's 100th commencement.

In addition, she received two academic awards: the Herman Joseph Muller Prize, awarded annually to the outstanding senior major in the Department of Music; and the Dorothy Dryfoos Olsan '41 Prize in Jewelry and Metalsmithing, established in memory of an alumna and awarded annually to a student who has achieved outstanding achievement in jewelry and metalsmithing.

During her Skidmore career, Horn was a member of Periclean, Skidmore's own academic honor society, which was formed in 1956 to stimulate intellectual curiosity, encourage creative activity, and honor academic achievement.

Horn also was one of four students this spring who received a Periclean Scholar Award. The awards are presented by the Periclean Honor Society to honor outstanding senior projects.

Founded in 1903, Skidmore College is a coeducational, liberal arts college with an enrollment of approximately 2,400 students. The college grants the bachelor's degree in some 60 majors, including both traditional liberal arts disciplines and preprofessional programs. Skidmore also awards the master of arts in liberal studies degree.
