ALBANY, NY (07/07/2010)(readMedia)-- Marion Smith, a resident of Queens Village and assistant treasurer of Melrose Credit Union, was named a 2010 Outstanding Professional by the Credit Union Association of New York at their 2010 Annual Meeting and Convention held recently in Cooperstown, N.Y.

Outstanding Professional honors are awarded to individuals whose life's passion is credit unions, as demonstrated by hard work, dedication and success. Smith won the award in the asset category of $250 million or more.

"Marion's devotion has had a positive impact on Melrose Credit Union and its members," said the Association's President/CEO William J. Mellin.

Smith has worked for Melrose Credit Union for almost 37 years. She currently manages 45 employees and the operation of the credit union's CUSO, Member Brokerage Services, LLC. Smith is one of Melrose's "go to" employees. Whether it's filling in at the teller line on a Saturday or coordinating the offering of Saturday hours to members without increasing staff, Smith can always get the job done no matter what challenges are presented.

Smith's professionalism and commitment extend beyond the credit union, as well. She is actively involved in the Metropolitan Chapter of the Association and regularly attends CUNA's Governmental Affairs Conference and "hill" meetings with her local legislators. She also captains Melrose's team in the walk for the American Cancer Society's "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer."

According to Alan Kaufman, treasurer of Melrose CU, Smith is "loved and highly respected by the staff, members and the credit union community. She is instrumental to the success of Melrose Credit Union."

Melrose Credit Union was chartered in 1922. As of Dec. 31, 2009, the credit union had over $1.2 billion in assets and more than 21,000 members. For more information about Melrose CU, please visit www.melrosecu.org.
