Middle School at The Albany Academies hosts Visiting Artist Thom Breitenbach

ALBANY, NY (11/05/2007)(readMedia)-- The Kermani Fine Arts Days is sponsored by a yearly endowment given by the Kermani Family to fund visiting artists to The Albany Academies. This year, the Academies is hosting artist Thom Breitenbach, who began working with the Middle School on Thursday, October 25 and Friday, October 26 and will be spending time with students in all divisions throughout the year.

Mr. Breitenbach is most famous for Proverbidioms paintings, with the first one being completed in 1974; Proverbidioms has become America's best selling poster and reached more than 100 countries around the globe, primarily as a teaching device. Mr. Breitenbach became the youngest person to win the Prix de Rome fellowship in painting from 1972-74.

He gave a presentation on October 25 to the entire Middle School about his early paintings, his famous paintings, posters and puzzles that had been made from his paintings. Mr. Breitenbach also worked with two of Art Teacher Diana Westbrook’s classes and with the two 7th grade boys art classes, teaching them an idea generator drawing lesson. He will be back to the Academies six more times throughout the year working with other grade levels.
