Mint Hill Native Wins Excellence in Teaching Physical Education Award at Limestone College

Limestone College Physical Education professor Dr. Cindy Cavanaugh presents Matthew Varnadoe with the Emmie Evans Rector Excellence for Teaching Physical Educatiion Award.

GAFFNEY, SC (05/01/2012)(readMedia)-- Matthew Varnadoe, a senior at Limestone College and native of Mint Hill, N.C., was presented with the Emmie Evans Rector Excellence for Teaching Physical Education Award during Limestone's Academic Awards Banquet on April 30, 2012. The award is given to a senior in the Physical Education Teacher Education program who has a grade point average higher than 3.5.

According to Dr. Cindy Cavanaugh, Associate Professor of Physical Education at Limestone, Varnadoe is the consumate student-athlete. "Matt is enrolled in Limestone's demanding honors program, has been selected to the Who's Who Among American College and University Students listing, has presented at the annual convention of the South Carolina Assoication for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, pitches for the Limestone Saints baseball team, and has a 3.71 GPA. He will also be among the first student teachers for our Physical Educatiion program during the Fall 2012 semester," she said.

Varnadoe is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Varnadoe in Mint Hill.
