Missing D.C. Air National Guardsman found dead
WASHINGTON, DC (11/28/2013)(readMedia)-- An Airman with the 113th Wing, D.C. National Guard, was found dead by police 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Airman 1st Class Evan Curbeam went missing Nov. 23. An investigation into the case is ongoing.
"Airman 1st Class Evan Curbeam was a friend, patriot and consummate professional. It is with heavy hearts that we learned of the loss of one of our own." said Brig. Gen. Marc Sasseville,commander of the 113th Wing, the D.C. Air National Guard unit in which Curbeam served. "He will be greatly missed. We extend our deepest sympathy and our hearts go out to the family and friends of Evan."
"We thank the Baltimore County and Baltimore City Police for their dedicated search efforts." said Sasseville. "While this is devastating news, we appreciate the quick closure their efforts brought."
Curbeam, 29, a Baltimore native, served honorably in the D.C. Air National Guard for 2 years. He was a fulltime employee at Joint Base Andrews in the munitions section of the 113th Maintenance Squadron.
He had recently been selected as the District of Columbia National Guard's Airman of the Year for 2013.
"We lost a beloved member of the D.C. Guard family." said Sasseville.
