Mobile based Guard unit returns

MONTGOMERY, AL (02/13/2014)(readMedia)-- The Alabama National Guard will welcome home the Soldiers of the 226th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, out of Mobile, at 11:00 a.m., Feb. 14, at the Fort Whiting Alabama National Guard armory, 1630 S. Broad Street, Mobile, Ala.

The approximately 190 Alabama Army National Guard Soldiers deployed in April 2013 as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. The unit mobilized at Fort Hood, Texas, for additional training before departing for duty in Afghanistan.

During their deployment, the Soldiers of the 226th provided base management operations for five base camps in Kabul, police advisory training for police districts of Kabul, quick reactionary force Soldiers for all of Kabul and also worked on projects that provided capital improvements to Kabul.

The unit was mobilized to support Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 and again in 2006.

National Guard leadership will participate in the homecoming, and families and the media are encouraged to attend.
