ALBANY, NY (03/05/2008)(readMedia)-- In Ohio, NOW-New York State President Marcia Pappas joined other National Organization For Women leaders to secure a big win for Hillary Clinton. One year ago, the National NOW PAC was the first major organization to endorse Hillary Clinton for President of the United States. Last week Pappas joined National NOW President Kim Gandy, Executive Vice President Olga Vives, NOW Lobbyist Pat Reuss, and many other state and local NOW leaders, who together made a huge difference in educating and energizing Ohio voters.
Throughout the past week, NOW leaders set up house parties to facilitate conversations with voters. The goal was to reach the undecided. And in fact, many undecided Ohio voters came out for Hillary when they learned more about her from leaders in the women’s rights movement. Pappas explained: "Issues like the war, the economy, reproductive rights, equal marriage, and health care were important to these voters, and all were discussed at length."
The hard work paid off on March 4, when Ohio voters went to the polls to support Hillary Clinton overwhelmingly, with a decisive margin, and in the fine company of two other significant wins in the bellwether states, Texas and Rhode Island.
President Pappas will continue to volunteer as Senator Clinton works toward victory in Pennsylvania and beyond. “Hillary Clinton is our very fine Senator; and we in New York will surely miss her when she becomes President. But we are willing to share her with the country, and indeed with the world she knows so well, from having visited over eighty countries in her capacity as First Lady of the United States.
Of course it's time for a change. And of course, a woman in the White House is the ultimate change." Pappas continued: " We are taking down the no girls allowed signs, one by one.” *She added: *"As goes Ohio, so goes the US!"
