HAMBURG, NY (08/08/2019) (readMedia)-- New York Army National Guard recruiters are at the Erie County Fair in Hamburg this week to talk to fair goers about the missions of the Guard, the equipment Guard Soldiers use and the benefits of Guard membership.

The Army National Guard recruiting exhibit features a version of the Army's latest wheeled military vehicle, the M-ATV, which is replacing the Humvee that New York Army Guard Soldiers used in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The M in M-ATV stands for Mine Resistant Ambush Protected. The ATV stands for All Terrain Vehicle.

The new M-ATV offers the same anti-explosives protection that bigger and heavier vehicles did while providing better mobility.

Visitors to the recruiting display can also see the special suit Soldiers wear to protect themselves in from chemical weapons.

Known as the JSLIST (normally pronounced J-List) it stands for Joint Service Lightweight Integrated Suit Technology, the suit is worn with a protective mask. The suit is displayed on a mannequin at the Guard exhibit.

Another mannequin is wearing the camouflage Army Guard snipers wear to blend in with the terrain while on a mission.

Visitors to the display will also be able to test their skills with a punching bag when they are not checking out the military equipment.

Reporters looking for a different kind of fair coverage are welcome to stop by the exhibit and check out what is there.

The station will be manned from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. from now until August 18. It is located just inside the fair's Main Gate off the south park.
